I put too much stake in beauty
And the Lord allowed age
I put too much stake in activism
And the Lord allowed grief
I put too much stake in creativity
And the Lord allowed dryness
I put too much stake in desire
And the Lord allowed disappointment
Until one day I could no longer lay claim to anything. I could no longer identify as anyone. Stripped of all, before me stood the Lamb and my eternal salvation. And with just enough hope left, I reached for the hem of Jesus and laid claim to Grace. And ultimate freedom followed.
